Traditional, network-level DLP is highly focused on files. Armed with a file name, a cloud access security broker (CASB), might be able to prevent file uploads to the internet but can’t prevent file downloads from internal web applications. Password-protected files coming down from the internet can’t be inspected by a CASB or a secure web gateway (SWG), and often can't decrypt TLS traffic. Finally, traditional DLP cannot inspect browser page fields and corresponding GET or PUT operations.
These limitations clearly call for DLP integrated with browser security. Menlo last-mile DLP offers two distinct mechanisms to prevent data loss: browser-centric DLP and dictionary-based DLP for files associated with web traffic.
